CURRENTLY IN LAMPEDUSA, ITALY
From the 28th of March for at least 2 weeks I'll be in Lampedusa, Italy.
Lampedusa is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, known because is one of the major entry point to Europe for migrants from North Africa.
In these days with the war in Libya, Lampedusa has been overrun by thousands of Tunisian and Libyan migrants. Usually the local population is about 5000 people, and now the number of migrants exceeded the italian islanders.
Most of the migrants are sleeping in the streets and the situation is becoming chaotic also for the lack of drinking water and food. The CIE (detention center for migrants) usually can host 800 people and is now completely overloaded and living conditions are disastrous.
I'll be there for some weeks covering the events, but especially I'll be looking for some more deep personal stories. My focus will be in the relationship between the Italian population and the migrants.

ATTUALMENTE A LAMPEDUSA
Dal 28 Marzo per almeno 2 settimane saro' a Lampedusa.
L'isola e' da sempre conosciuta come uno dei principali ingressi per l' Europa, ma in questi giorni e' diventata l'approdo di migliaia e migliaia di migranti tunisini e libici. Di solito la popolazione isolana conta 5000mila italiani, ora i migranti sono più' di 7000, e vivono per le strade. Il centro di accoglienza CIE che di solito dovrebbe accogliere non più' di 800 persone ora e' completamente sovraccarico e le condizioni di vita sono disastrose.
Rimarro' sull'isola per qualche settimana coprendo gli eventi, ma soprattutto cercando di approfondire sulle storie personali. Il mio focus sarà' la relazione tra la popolazione italiana e i migranti.
